miss A's Suzy interview : '' I Was Lucky to Be Successful in Everything ''

Suzy and Lee Seung Gi, two of the most successful figures in the Korean entertainment scene, finally met, and their meeting in MBC′s Gu Family Book, as expected, became a sure hit.

Despite their prowess in pulling this feat off, Gu Family Book was actually the actors′ first period piece of their careers. Though it boasted such trustworthy names as screenwriter Kang Eun Kyung and director Shin Woo Chul, the actors′ ventures into Gu Family Book were taken to be challenges on the personal level.

Still, they managed to pull through together, leading the drama to a success. Behind the success was Suzy′s successful act as Dam Yeo Wool.
It seemed Suzy was finding it hard to shake Dam Yeo Wool off, as she had poured her heart into the character for months on end. What was interesting, however, was that Suzy′s original personality wasn′t very different from that of Yeo Wool′s. She was bright and fairly laid back.

Enews met with the singer-turned-actress to talk about acting.

You′ve been successful in film, dramas and music. What′s your secret?

I don′t really have a secret; I just think I was lucky. I was able to meet a good director, and my fellow cast gave me a lot of help. In Architecture 101, director Lee Yong Joo molded my ′first love′ image and again this time I was helped along by the directing and [Lee] Seung Gi oppa (big brother). I was very lucky.

How was it, working with Lee Seung Gi?

He′s very considerate. He also gives me advice on how I could do something in a certain scene. That was good.

Dam Yeo Wool′s fashion styles made issues everywhere. Didn′t you want to wear pretty hanboks like other girls, though?

I didn′t feel that way much. My warrior′s suit was so pretty. I liked it a lot, and it looked cool. (Laugh) I didn′t really want to try on pretty clothes, but my mom kept asking when I would be appearing in hanbok.

Director Shin Woo Chul is known to be a hard trainer for young actors. How was he in person?

He was charismatic and he was a great leader, so I had nothing to worry about. He wasn′t like the so-called ′tiger′ everyone says he′s like (Laugh); he tried to give me strength, saying I should be confident. I think I would′ve been pressured if he had gone into every detail, but he just told me to do whatever with confidence. It feels great when he tells me, ′That was good Yeo Wool.′

It′s your second piece with Yoo Yeon Seok. How was he this time around?

I forgot about that entirely because he had changed so much since I last saw him during Architecture 101. (Laugh) You would′ve noticed, but his image and style of acting has changed entirely. It is surprising that we′ve met again, though.

How does the life of an actress and the life of an idol singer differ?

I′ve never thought of it in those terms. I just want to live my life like a normal human being. I′m not saying that idols and actresses aren′t like normal human beings, though. (Laugh)
Prejudices against idols still exist. Do you feel any pressure?

It can′t be helped. I think it′s important to quietly go my own way rather than try to break through such prejudice. It′s not something I can change.

You′re originally a singer. Is it hard to keep up these separate careers?

I am sad that I can′t concentrate on one specific area. Still, I can′t help but do everything because so many people like me that way.

For your previous piece you mostly acted with people around your age, but this time you had to act with a lot of seniors. Was it any different?

You get to learn from the mere presence of such seniors. They spout a lot of energy when they act. It helps to just watch them. Jo Sung Ha sunbaenim (senior), who was my father Dam Pyung Joon, treated me like his daughter. He danced a lot on set, and we had great times together.

Any plans for the future?

I don′t have anything planned, but there are a lot of other areas I want to tackle. I want to write, and I want to release a photobook someday. I also want to host a radio show if I get the chance.

The drama was pretty long, with 24 episodes. What do you want to hear most now that it′s finished?

I hope the sincere emotions I poured into Gu Family Book made it to the viewers. I want to hear that they could feel I was sincere, or that they could see my sincerity
