Ke$ha jumps in the air on the cover of Self magazine’s July 2013, on newsstands now!
The 26-year-old entertainer opened up to the mag about how she keeps in shape, how she deals with haters, and more.
On how she keeps in shape: “I like to mix it up because I get bored easily. I bike, I swim and I love yoga. I also love rock climbing, which I’ve done since I was 16. It’s meditative and great for toning your arms and back. I love to run, too. On tour, I usually get offstage around 11 P.M. with the most intense adrenaline rush, so I put my hood on-nobody ever recognizes me-hit the streets and run until I get exhausted. It’s nice to get to actually experience the world and exercise at the same time.”
On finding the courage to break the rules: “I’m a white girl from Nashville who-kind of-raps. It’s weird, but I’ve always believed I was put here to do what I’m doing. I’ve had to endure so many people telling me, ‘No, you can’t do that,’ ‘No, you’re not pretty enough,’ ‘No, you’re not skinny enough,’ and I just had to be like, ‘You’re not stopping me. Get out of my way.’ Some of that comes from my mom, but I also think I was born with balls.”
On how she deals with haters: “The most important thing I’ve done is learn to laugh at myself, and I try to do that with any negativity coming at me, too. It’s hilarious how mean some people get about my silly pop songs.”
