KBS Puts a Ban on Psy’s ‘Gentleman’ MV

Despite all the hits and popularity that Psy’sGentleman has been getting, KBS doesn’t care and has decided to ban the new music video airing.

On April 18, government-funded KBS stated, “After careful consideration, we have decided that the Gentleman music video was unqualified for broadcast due to the abuse of public property.”

KBS is referring to the scene in the music video, where Psy kicks over a ‘No Parking’ traffic cone while walking down the street with his elderly entourage. KBS added that the scene could become a bigger problem with parody videos being made.
“That is what the internal regulations say. Just because it’s Psy, we cannot let it go. It would be weirder if we gave him special treatment over this,” said KBS.

Before the official reviewing, YG Entertainment had already edited out the scenes from the music video that would be deemed inappropriate. The company will not be asking for another reexamination from KBS.

SBS will be editing a portion out to make the music video appropriate for age 12+. MBC has not reviewed the music video yet.

The irony of this entire situation is that on the day when KBS announced the results, President Park Geun Hye praised Psy on his respect for copyright principles, after he paid the original creator of the Brown Eyed Girls’ Abracadabra dance for the rights to use - the first time such a thing has happened in Korea for choreography.
