But Penelope Cruz was well and truly back on the red carpet with a bang as she pulled out all the sartorial stops at a special screening of her new movie, The Counselor, at London's Odeon West End on Thursday night.
The 39-year-old actress opted for a look of full-on gothic glamour as she showed off her awe-inspiring hourglass figure in a striking full-length Temperley London Ariel lace gown. 
While the actress stars in The Counselor alongside off-screen husband Javier Bardem, the pair didn't pose together on the red carpet.
Instead, the Oscar-winning actor larked around with co-star Michael Fassbender - who plays Penelope's fiance in the upcoming thriller - as they posed for photographs.

She only gave birth to her second child in July but Penelope Cruz had no problem stripping down on a family beach holiday just a month later.
The 39-year-old jetted off for a sunshine break in Corsica with her husband Javier Bardem, 44 and their two children for the last two weeks of August.
Penelope was spotted showing off her post-baby bod as the young family relaxed with friends on the beach and took in the local sites.

The 39-year-old actress gave birth to her second child with the 44-year-old actor by her side at the Ruber International Hospital on Monday (July 22) in Madrid, Spain – the same day as the Royal Baby! Congrats!
Over the weekend, Penelope and Javier were spotted hitting the town for a night out with their big family.
The couple also have a two-year-old son named Leo. Penelope and Javier got married back in 2010.

But it seems Penelope Cruz is planning on going right up until the last minute as she proved when she attended the Los Veranos de la Villa Music Festival in Madrid on Saturday.
The 39-year-old, who was thought to be due to give birth back in June, looked as if she was ready to welcome her second child at any moment as her stomach swelled against her T-shirt.
Joined by her husband Javier Bardem the actress looked perhaps a little on the uncomfortable side as she mingled with her fellow festival goers.

The Counselor's second trailer was released

The two actors star in the Ridley Scott-directed film alongside Penelope Cruz, Javier Bardem, and Cameron Diaz. Cormac McCarthy penned the script for the highly anticipated thriller.
Michael stars as a lawyer who gets sucked into the world of high powered drugs. Brad and Javier play big league guys in the field, with Cameron and Penelope starring as their ladies.

However, now it looks like it's time for Penelope Cruz to give birth any day now as she was spotted out and about in Madrid.
The Spanish actress, 39, looked heavily pregnant in a red dress as she chatted on her mobile phone outside an interiors shop.

Though the bombshell actress confirmed her second pregnancy only in February, it seems her belly is several months along.
She and husband Javier Bardem, 44, already have a two-year old son, Leo, seen being held by his glamorous mother in the water.
As revealed by her publicist, Penelope is ‘extremely happy and very excited’ about her second pregnancy.
